Croup Update

Yohan's voice is back (not quite 100%, but getting there) - the chap is happily squealing and crying once again. His nose is still pretty clogged up, though, and the cough worries him every now and then. We're definitely glad to hear him again, and are hoping the rest of the ailments clear up in the next couple days.

Croup

Yohan hasn't been well the last three days... the doctor says he has croup. Apparently the virus that causes the cold in adults sometimes has this effect on infants. He has a cold and a cough and a sporadic fever, and his nose is all stuffed up. He's almost completely lost his voice as well with this, and what's remaining is really hoarse. He can hardly make a sound when he cries or is happy. Susan said it's like his volume knob has been turned all the way down to 1. Sad to see the little guy like this - the doctor says he can't give any medicines since this is a virus, and it will take 3 -4 days to run it's course. We're praying this will work it's way out of his system real soon!

He had his 4-month appointment today, but the doctor postponed his shots until he gets better. Vital stats at the 4-month mark:
Weight - 12 lbs 13oz
Height - 24 1/4"

Trying to be artistic

Susan has been wanting to take some artistic pics of the little guy for a while now, while he's still little. We finally took a few yesterday at home; I think with a little bit more effort we won't have to go to Picture People any more.

Lighting up the room

For the longest time we've been trying to get the little guy to pay some attention to his parents. Every time we tried to catch his eye he would look away, preferring instead to gaze intently at the walls and fans. Ever since we got back from Seattle though, our man has been gurgling and smiling like a champ! He intently watches us while he's awake, and if we don't pay him the requisite amount of attention, he sure knows how to get it. So cool to see him smile now!

(P.S. For email subscribers: video included, and you'll have to click through to the blog site to see it).

Priceless

Susan captured a Yohan classic this past week.

No, really. Don't mess with the Yohan

(For context, the byline is a slightly modified version of the new movie "Don't mess with the Zohan").

July 4th at Seattle

Our dear Seattle buddies invited us over for the long weekend, so we packed the little munchkin and his paraphernalia into the car and took off due North. He was really good during the 3 hour drive - we stopped once for a feed and a change of attire (for him, not us), and he either slept or gazed lovingly out the window at the Washington scenery. Things look promising for future expeditions.

We got to meet one of our primary reasons for the trip, little Miss Anika - just 10 days younger than Yo. She's a super cute bundle - loves to chatter away, especially with her uncle Sid. When the babies were 'introduced' to each other, she stared in fascination at him. He, on the other hand, played the nonchalant, carefree gentleman-walking-down-a-cobbled-street-type, and kept looking at everything else in the room, with just an occasional glance at the cute girl in front of him. I'm sure this type of behavior will change in just a little while :)

We had a super time in Seattle - well-behaved babies, great company, excellent food, an evening with the Wii, and a nail-biting Wimbledon final - what more could one ask from a weekend vacation! We ate like it was going out of style - from Pakistani restaurants and breakfast buffets to Indian-style pizzas to bbqs and delicious home-cooked meals, we got stuffed at every opportunity. We were taken care of in grand style, I must say - thanks so much, guys!!

And of course, such moments need to be captured on film - or some such medium. Here we go.
