Pancakes, PJs and Picking

Wed last week was very Fall-like for us. We started the day with our playgroup little people coming over for a Pajama morning. Pancakes, sausages and cartoons were on the agenda. These kids have it good!!

Post-nap, we went on a walk to take in the crisp Fall air and pick up pretty leaves. We then used the leaves to make a front-door wreath.

Chatter-Mika

The little lady has certainly taken after her brother in the chatting department, and has quite the vocabulary. Susan will try to capture some actual "conversations" with her brother, but in the meantime here's a solo sampler.

Malaika's First Field Trip

This year we went back to Plumper Pumpkin Patch - but this time around it was Malaika's first field trip with her Monkey's class from Mustard Seed.

The kids needed no prompting (aka yelling) for them to be get ready for our outing. Both were suited and booted and waiting at the door a full 15 minutes before scheduled departure.

For Malaika the highlights of the day were the big, tube slide, picking a pumpkin (she was sure she wanted a little one) and her pink rain boots that she can't get enough of. Yohan loved the hay maze and the tractor ride. I was glad that this year was this year and not last year when I did the same field trip with them  - except with a two-and-a-half year old, a one year old, a stroller, a baby carrier and two pumpkins. I do miss the baby stage. But some days this growing up thing is wonderful.

Icecream, Popcorn and Bread Puddin'

When I said that "cooking" was part of our afternoon rituals, I may have understated it! Yup, our projects tend to gravitate most definitely to food!

One cool project we tried out was making 15-minute icecream. We poured half-and-half and sugar in a ziplock which went in a bigger ziplock filled with ice and rock-salt. Some vigorous shaking later... voila... homemade icecream! Other projects included "making" popcorn (oh, the wonder of beholding a bag puffing up in the microwave) and bread-pudding which Mika had more of a hand in than I desired.

Overheard...

Yohan talking to his friend Annika while playing: Do you know Steve Jobs died?
Annika: Oh
Yohan: Yeah, he died and went to heaven and then he rose-d again. When someone dies they go to heaven and rose again.

A little input from dada and lots of input from school, church and BSF and the little man blends his own cocktail of theology. I just love conversations between three year olds.

Desi Damaka

Thanks to trigger-happy parents (and, recently, grandparents) the kids have gone almost pro with posing for the camera! Here's a peek at them in their desi finery over the last couple months of dressing up for Indian parties. While Yohan is showing some resistance to being made to wear "it's not comfy" clothing, Mika loves all her 'princess' clothes, has started demanding her necklace on occasion and expectantly awaits her dada's compliments when she dresses up

Preschool, Memory Verses, and the Circus

(embedded videos)

Malaika's first day at pre-school.

The kiddos with one of their first memory verses, taught by Gampa and Gama.

The circus was in town a couple week's ago, and all of us trooped downtown (along with half of the city, apparently) for some entertainment. Yesterday Yo re-created the circus in our family room, and by the time lazy me got the camera out, we were already at the 'summary' stage.
