Fire-trucking continues

So, you may have stumbled across a certain prominent theme in our blog - when it come to Yo's life, it's all about, "Cars, Trucks and Things that Go". It's no surprise then that when a friend organized a trip to the local fire-station last week, we jumped at the idea.
Evidently, fire-station tours are a regular feature in an American kid's life - poor Indian mommy had no idea and thought the idea was quite novel.
Yohan (and Mika, of course) was part of a group of about 15 kids who trooped into the fire-station. We watched a video together about a doggie fireman and then got to see where the real firemen (and women) cook, watch TV and work out. Then it was off to explore the fire truck which, I think, was Yohan's favorite part.
His least favorite part was quite obvious - when the fireman demonstrated how he put on his gear, donning his oxygen mask, it was clear that Yohan preferred watching "Fireman Sam" on PBS rather than meeting the real, live version. Mommy had to escort him away when the tears started, so there wouldn't be mass two-year-old hysteria.
Funny thing - when I asked him what he liked best about the trip he said, "Woof driving fire-truck" :)

Baby in motion

After a long while of being content just sitting and watching the commotion all around her, Mika has decided that she's had enough of older brother bossing her around, and is trying to take matters related to evasive action into her own hands.  She's now rolling all over the place with great speed, and is starting to get into crawling positions as well.  Yo isn't quite sure what to make of all this sudden movement from a previously static entity.

We'll get some pics/videos of the lady in action pretty soon - for now here's some recent pics in her recently-concluded content-to-sit phase.

Shapes - part 2

Last time around, Yo was able to identify shapes that Susan asked him to.  Now, under the continued tutelage of his mamma, the boy is able to say the words as well.  We're constantly being surprised by things like this - just this night he reprised the events of the day as he was falling asleep, and even constructed sentences like 'I dancing Annika's house, dada'.

Yo's 2 year stats

Height: 32 1/4"
Weight: 24 lbs

This pic was taken at the doctors' office when we went in for Yo's 2 month check-up.  Didn't know mini-hospital gowns existed until then!

The boy is talking a mile a minute now - have to really watch what you say when he's in earshot, as it will be picked up before you know it.  It's amazing how kids do this - and even know the right context in which to use these words the next time.

An example of a progression:
Truck
Truck stuck
Truck stuck in-a muck
Oh Goodness, truck stuck in-a muck

And, btw - he apparently doesn't care for the name YoYo anymore.  It's Yo-Han, thank you very much.

It's all fun and games

When the cousins were here they visited the local Children's Museum one day, and had a blast.  (As an aside, not sure why it's a called a museum - as far as I know it's a giant play area for kids, with very cool stuff).  And another day they all trooped off to the mall, where once again they had quite a few things to play with.

Easter

Easter with the cousins was one action-packed day.  We started with all the kids getting decked out for church.  After a good service we headed off to lunch at PF Changs.  The Narjala family tradition of Easter cupcakes continued with the aforementioned being made at home this year.  After some attempts at naps the gang was herded back into the NFV (Narjala Family Vehicle) for dinner at Bhasker mama's and Shanda A's place.  The cousins had a boat-load of fun there, with egg decoration, Duplos, trucks, and Easter egg hunts.

The Great Wolf Lodge

Over this past weekend, the cousins (and their parents) squeezed into the van and headed out to an indoor water park a couple hours away, called the Great Wolf Lodge. Given the wonderful weather we have been enjoying the last few days, an indoor anything sounded rather appealing.  The kids enjoyed themselves, and all-in-all it was an action-packed couple days.
