Forty Years Together
Long ago, think the age of the dinosaurs,
A lady, pretty and wide-eyed (thanks to Campos)
Wed a man, with culry hair and sideburns to boot
(He, rather handsome in purple tie and suit.)
What followed next was quite a whirl,
Rajko Rubbers and two (perfect) little girls.
Life flew by with Kirk and Clarks,
Things were busy – life was no lark.
Daily Bread mornings, Patio conversations
Lunches in dabbas, dinners for all occasions.
Gymkhanna and Good Shepherd, Rahael and Wolverine,
Mike Macklin taking center stage in many a scene.
The girls were gone, the empty nest
Meant time for Mandapam Road paying guests.
But that was a short-lived venture…
For then came the Bangalore adventure.
Months in America, diets that followed
Church at Ashreya; in no Chennai heat you wallowed.
Grandkids by the dozen – or least there are five
Sessions on Skype when you see them live.
Where did the years go? You may ask,
Following your example is no easy task.
Your love and friendship and your unique dynamic
Jesus, the Foundation, that makes you both tick.
Your prayers and your calls, they mean a lot
Through your lives, not just your words, were we taught
The values and lessons that carry us through,
Parents like you, they are a precious few.
We love you!
Happy 40th Anniversary!
Love,
The 9 of us from the other end of the world
who wish we could
celebrate this day with you.
