Woodburn Tulip Festival
Over the last weekend the three of us went to the local tulip festival. They also had cow trains and pony rides and kiddie areas for the young 'uns to play in. Yo certainly has something musical in him; there was a band playing Scottish/Dutch-type music, and our man waddled right up to their tent and started doing a little jig.

A sign of things to come
Susan bought a little baby girl doll last week so Yo can get used to the idea of a baby sister. This is what ensued. The last part of the video is hilarious.

The duck pond
One evening Susan made us a picnic and we went to the duck pond close to our house. This was Yo's second trip there - the first was when he was 2 weeks old. He probably enjoyed this one a little bit more.
Spring/summer fashion lineup
Mamma bought him his own pair of sunglasses since Yo seems to be blinded by sudden appearance of the bright shiny object in the sky. This Rajnikanth pose seems to be indicative of his Tamil heritage coming through...
This little boy greeted me when I walked in from work one evening... we were thinking about going to the coast on the weekend, and mamma was getting him in the mood.
Posing like a good little Indian boy. We actually have the bottom dhothi part too, but didn't think going to church in that would be a good idea...

Father-Son walk around the neighborhood
This Sunday Susan went out for an afternoon with the girls, leaving Yo and I to entertain each other. We played for a while in the backyard, and then I decided to take Yo on a walk around the neighborhood - an actual walk, not pushing him in the stroller. He did great - held on to my hand and walked around for quite a long while, stopping every now and then to examine in great detail every leaf and stick on the ground. After a while the little adventurer let go of my hand and set off on his own - just needed some supervision to make sure he didn't step off the pavement!

He's got some music in him
The boy certainly seems to enjoy his music - does his very own version of the quick step whenever he hears a toon. He also had his first meeting with the bongos this week - we might have a budding percussionist in the house.

More walking and talking
With his new found mobility, he has apparently forgotten how to just sit. As per Newton's First Law of Motion, he tends to remain in a state of mobility until an external force (aka parent or furniture) comes into contact with him.

Easter weekend
Susan took Yo for his first Easter egg hunt on Friday; he looked rather cute waddling around with a basket, but somehow I don't think he grasped the concept. Susan also introduced the family to a new tradition of enjoying some cupcakes on Easter morning; Yo certainly didn't complain about that!

Funny toddler stuff
We typically show Yo his own videos at meal times to keep him entertained and distracted enough to eat. We also check out YouTube when the Yo video collection is exhausted - and we came across this. Hilarious.

And we've got a few months to teach Yo how to do this:

A birthday card from India
A week or so ago Yo got a card from Jaya, Vani, and Magesh, wishing him for his birthday. This was the only card with "music inside", and he was intrigued.

Someone got a makeover
The boy's hair was getting a tad unruly, and so we took him in to get his locks trimmed. Susan found a kids-only haircut place called Pigtails and Crewcuts (the things we discover as parents!), and we went there this afternoon.
He was somewhat traumatized by the whole experience, even though it was over pretty quickly and the place was very kid-friendly. His mamma and dada feel like they've got a new person living with them now - he seems all grown up so suddenly. Susan wants his hair to grow back real soon! More pics below.

It is (will be) a girl!
We went for the gender-determining ultrasound this afternoon, and found out #2 is going to be a girl! The grandmoms were predictably very excited :) And Susan is already dreaming about picking up Easter dresses now for next year, since they are "so cute".
The scan also didn't raise any red flags - all systems functioning as they should. Praise God for that.

Emergence of the toddler within
Over the last couple weeks or so our man has been exhibiting toddler-like behavior, putting his baby past squarely behind him:
- He has stopped crawling around, and walks everywhere
- He's mostly on his feet - hardly sits down for a minute
- He's in and out of everything! Loves opening doors / closets and rummaging within
- And finally, he's discovered the power of throwing tantrums (though it's still in the 'whining' stage)
A couple days ago we discovered a HUGE package outside our front door, addressed to Yohan Narjala, sender unknown. After a bit of investigative phone-calling, we pinned responsibility on his aunt Pia and uncle Sujan. We unwrapped a large Sand & Water activity center, and curious Yo just had to be in the middle of it all. We "tested" it indoors, but it eventually made it's way outside. Susan filled it up with water today and apparently Yo was quite happy splashing about. Thanks a lot for this, guys!!
Something else we set up this weekend was a play structure that was passed on from our friends Jonna and Mitch. We hosed this down and set it up in the backyard, and it will certainly keep the boy busy this summer. Thanks, Mitch and Jonna!

Yo's first trip to the Zoo
In continuation of the safari-themed 1st birthday festivities, we took the little munchkin to the Oregon Zoo this afternoon. It was a great day to be out, which meant half the city was also there. He was enthralled by the crowds as usual, but did take a passing interest in the animals too (when there were no kids around to look at). The main attractions for him were the seals, a polar bear, and an elephant.

Have teeth, will bite
Yo's experimenting with his new teeth (all 6 of them so far), and now tends to prefer foods that he can chew. When we do give him his usual Gerber mashed up stuff, then the spoon tends to get chewed on.
